Tarvin Couple Chris and Joy Price decided when They 'Tied The Knot' recently during a Cruise that they would ask Family, Friends, Work Colleagues and Wedding Guests to Donate Money to Miles of Smiles rather than giving them Wedding Gifts. As a Result a Fantastic £800 was donated to The Appeal and Miles of Smiles Committee Member Emma White went along to their Home to present a Certificate of Thanks. Chris said ''What Better gift is there than Children's Happiness".

This Years' Dragon Boat Festival was The Biggest Ever with 29 Teams Taking Part. Reigning Champs Miles of Smiles 1 again posted the Fastest Heat Time of the Day of 56.25 Seconds but Unluckily dropped an oar in The Final after taking an Early Lead and were pushed into 4th place in a Photo Finish Final. Well done to Both Teams for there Effort and comittment. around £3000 will be raised through Sponsorship.

Miles of Smiles 'Trip Coordinator' Brian Peers presents The Bears Paw, Newton Manager Alan Kay with a Certificate of Thanks watched by regulars at the popular pub. A fantastic £1,100 was raised from a Christmas Disco and bar collections in the New Year. Regulars at The Pub are looking forward to another fundraising event later in the year.

 

 

Charlotte Brown of The Dee-Tex Project, Saltney went along to Sainsbury's Caldey Valley recently to hand over Cheques to Sainsbury's Staff in Aid of CATH (Chester Aid to the Homeless) and Chronicle-backed Charity Miles of Smiles.

The Textile Recycling Project based in River Lane Saltney supports Local Charities by placing it's Bright Pink Textile Recepticles sporting the Charities Logo at various collection points in The Flintshire and Chester Areas. A Percentage of the Revenue from tonnage sent to their end user is then given to the relevant Charity on a regular basis.

The Bears Paw in Dicksons Drive, Newton held a Fund Raising night shortly before Christmas and an incredible £920 was raised through collections, A Grand Raffle and Stand up Bingo. Mark Welsh's Deva Disco provided the entertainment and a presentation will be made to Miles of  Smiles shortly.

The Custom House in Watergate Street, Chester held a Christmas Evening of Music and Song and a New Years Eve Party with all proceeds to Miles of Smiles. Sarah Broadbent of the popular city pub thanked local businesses for providing raffle prizes, all her staff and customers for getting involved and all the performers especially Chester's got Talent 2009 Winner Lucy Norbury for travelling from London just to sing in the evening. Hundreds of pounds will be presented to Miles of Smiles shortly.

The Final of X-Factor 2009 was held at The Piper on Saturday 2nd January in aid of Miles of Smiles. In a very close contest, local boy Scott Hulse edged out Kristianna Rutter and Robyn Reynolds to win the £200 first Prize.

Last years Chester Dragon Boat Festival on the River Dee in Sandy Lane was won by Miles of Smiles. After losing out by one tenth of a second last year, a very determined team turned on the style and posted the best heat time of the day at 1 min 38 seconds.  Then, in a head to head four team final, trounced the opposition by over 2 Seconds for a convincing win. Sponsorship from the team has made over £2,000 for The Charity.

Granada Reports Andy Bonner was a guest at The Miles of Smiles Gala Night at The Queen Hotel, Chester on Friday 18th September and is pictured with Brian Peers and Mick Hughes. The Annual Gala Nights gets Fundraisers and Benefactors of The Appeal together and 240 guests were treated to a great show. First Prize in the Fun Casino was won by Brian McManus of The Dee-Tex Project, Saltney. Brian and three guests will be taken by Limo to The Cock o' Barton for dinner and drinks to the value of £180.

A packed Slow Boat Restaurant in Frodsham Street, Chester welcomed the fabulous Dixi Tucker for 'The Annual Ladies Evening' in aid of Miles of Smiles.
170 Ladies enjoyed a full Chinese Banquet, Cabaret,  Raffle and Stand-up Bingo. £1,200 was raised on the night. Thanks also to local businesses for donating marvellous raffle prizes which helped to make the evening very special.

The Piper in Hoole continue their support of Chronicle-backed charity Miles of Smiles and received a Certificate of Thanks for raising a staggering £2,640 through their 'Chester's got Talent' Competition, X-Factor 2008 and a Family Funday.
This Years X-Factor Competition First Heat got underway on Saturday August 29th and further heats will take place in September, October and November with a Grand Final scheduled for Saturday 2nd January 2010.

Miles of Smiles Treasurer Gary Horton presents Joe Gildea and Helen Moroney of The Ship Victory with a Certificate of Thanks. Almost £800 was raised between the Angela Gildea Memorial Fund and Miles of Smiles at The Annual Rounders Match and Karoke Evening. Well done both teams and supporters, Joe and Helen from The Ship and everyone who helped throughout the day and at The Ship in the evening.

 

A Presentation of £3000 was made to Miles of Smiles by Chester Lions President Mike Hill recently. The Amount represented A Third of The Proceeds raised at The Lions Inaugural Ladies Driving Challeng at Poulton Airfield in June. The Relative Comfort Appeal (Countess of Chester Hospital) and The Hospice of The Good Shepard received similar amounts.

Selena and Claire from The Beauty Lounge in Westminster Park present Miles of Smiles Chairman with cheques to the value of £400. The popular beauty salon have donated a percentage of the money taken from the spray tans done at The Beauty Lounge and have also kindly agreed to sponsor a Gaming Table at The Miles of Smiles Gala Night at The Queen Hotel Chester on September 18th.
 

 

The Cock o' Barton in Barton village near Malpas have adopted Miles of Smiles as their official charity and are planning events throughout the coming year. Emma White from the Miles of Smiles Committee went across to meet management of the very popular venue and took official collection boxes and T-Shirts to be used at all the planned events.

The Summer Party at The Cock o' Barton was blighted by poor weather but it failed to dampen spirits at the hugely popular venue. Kiddies and Parents dodged the showers to ride ponies, play the coconut shies and play various games. Inside after lunch service festivities continued with live music and a Grand Raffle. All money raised on the day will go to Miles of Smiles.

As part of their years fundraising for Miles of Smiles The Piper staged a 'Fun Day' at the pub and were also 'Pub of The Week' on Dee 106.3 Radio. A Football match in the morning between The Piper and The Piper Legends kicked off proceedings. After a close first half, the old legs and lungs started to go and The Piper ran out 9-1 winners. In the afternoon, kidies rides, stalls and a live broadcast brought the Crowds out all supporting Miles of Smiles.

Lynda Edmunds and Steve Foulkes, organisers of the Annual Vauxhall Motors Football Festival present Miles of Smiles Chairman with a magnificent £1,200 cheque. Each player who enters the 5-a-side competition donates £1 of the entry fee to Miles of Smiles. Over 150 teams entered this year in different age groups played over two days.


 

 

25 year Old Alex Griffiths from Barkhill Road, Vicars Cross completed The BUPA Great Manchester Run on Sunday 17th May and was Sponsored by friends and family to he tune of £225. Alex works in Manchester for BUPA and the company kindly matched his efforts. Including Gift Aid, Alex raised a total of £512 and was awarded a 'Certificate of Thanks' by the Charity Chairman.


 

The Final of Chester's Got Talent was held at The Piper in Hoole recently in aid of Miles of Smiles. Winner Lucy Norbury of Broughton brought the house down with a brilliant rendition of 'Halleluja' and edged out local rock duo 'Our way Up' and Chester busker Jake Sanson in front of a packed house to take the £200 first Prize.

A full Chinese Banquet was followed by an hour of fun with Jimmy and then a disco. A raffle and Stand-up Bingo followed and the Evening raised £1,200.

As a Thank you for the groups efforts they were treated to a meal and drinks at The Grosvenor in Pulford courtesy of Miles of Smiles and were driven from Chester in style by Phil Thomas of City Limousines in a black stretch Lincoln Limo.


 

 

 

A recent 'Racenight' at The Piper in Hoole raised over £300 for Miles of Smiles. A great night was had by all and as well as punting on horses and jockeys, an auction, a 'Deal or No Deal' game and a 'Play your Cards Right' game entertained the crowd and proved to be a winning night for all concerned. Thank you Gavin Wadeson from Interactive Solutions and everyone at The Piper for a great night.

A packed house at The Piper, Hoole on 27th December watched the final of X-Factor 2008. After 4 previous heats, 11 Finalists took to the floor and in a very close contest Hayley Jones took the £200 first prize just ahead of Michelle Bebbington who received £100 as runner up and Dean Brierly who received £50 for third place. All the finalists received a framed certificate, a £10 voucher and a bottle of wine. The evening raised over £300 for Miles of Smiles.

Colleagues from Sira Test Certification, Eccleston were rewarded for raising over £1,800 for Miles of Smiles when the charity organised a meal for 6 at the Slowboat Restaurant. The party were taken from The Grosvenor in Pulford to the venue in style courtesy of City Limousines, Chester. Thank you Phil and Sue from City Limo's for your generosity and Francis Ting and staff at The Slowboat for your hospitality. This sort of recognition to supporters of the appeal is very much appreciated.
