In the 17 year
History of Miles of Smiles I have never known an 18 month period
where Funds have been so difficult to raise. The Recession and
Credit Crunch have hade a huge effect on all Charities and we
are no exception.
It now costs
around £40,000 a year just to make the Annual Disneyland Paris
Trip. That for a Voluntary Committee of just 7 people is a big
ask in the current economic situation.
However
Businesses, Organisations, and individuals all over Chester,
Flintshire and Ellesmere Port continue to help us make a
difference to Families in these areas.
As with
everything in life we have had our ups and downs in the last 12
months. Two highlights have been the success of the inaugural
Chester Lions Ladies Driving Challenge where we were one of the
Charities who received £3,000 of the proceeds and also the
triumph of our Dragon Boat Team under the captaincy of Website
host Mark Scholes. I'm sure the Team will be well up for making
it a double next Year.
The Piper in
Hoole continue to raise huge amounts of money in their talent
competitions and these regular injections of cash are a huge
boost to our other annual fundraising events.
We know
already that we will be going to Disneyland Paris again next
year and will be asking for nominations from local people so it
is essential we keep our feet on the pedal to help make dreams
come true.
I would like
to thank Chronicle Newspapers, Dee 106.3 Radio and Be On The Net
for their support and keeping everyone aware of what we are up
to throughout the Year.
To all our
Committee, Fundraisers and Benefactors and the hundreds of
Individuals who are a massive part of what we do, I wish you all
a very merry Christmas and Happy New Year and hope 2010 sees a
return to a bit of Financial Stability.
